Tekeyan Cultural Association, Headquartered in Boston, MA , was established in 1947 in Beirut, Lebanon, named after the poet Vahan Tekeyan to preserve the Armenian Culture and Heritage in the Diaspora, and to promote cultural, spiritual and educational ties with the homeland, irrespective of political and ideological barriers.

In 2000, in view of massive emigration of Armenians from Armenia to Russia, Europe and America for a better economic life, amongst them the teachers, the TCA Board of Directors launched the 'sponsor a teacher in Armenia' project to help them stay in their country and continue educating the children, some of whom are destined to be the leaders of the country. 10 years into this project, it is truly rewarding to know that almost 95% of the teachers have preferred to stay rather than emigrate.

The project started with 3 schools, then in 2001, the 4th school in Armenia was added, and in 2007, a 5th school was added in the village of Berdzor, in Kashatagh region of Artzakh (Karabagh).

Currently, there are 300 teachers, 75 workers, and 2972 students in 5 TCA sponsored schools. They are: TCA school in Yerevan; TCA school in the village of Garbi; TCA school in the village of Gumri; TCA school in the village of Stepanavan; TCA school in the village of Berdzor, Arzakh (Karabagh).

Over 395,000 dollars were raised in USA and Canada since the inception of the project. The funds raised were allocated entirely to the project, and every year a delegation has visited the schools, and personally has delivered the funds raised to each and every teacher working in those five schools.

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the 'Sponsor a Teacher In Armenia and Karabagh', and to secure the continuity of this most worthwhile project, this Special Fund Raising is organized in 8 cities to establish an Endowment Fund for the Teachers of Armenia and Karabagh.
