Gerard Libaridian currently holds the Alex Manoogian Chair in Modern Armenian History at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His work focuses on Armenia, the Caucasus, and the Near East. From 1991 to 1997 Prof. Libaridian served first as Adviser and then Senior Adviser for foreign and security policy (including relations with Turkey) to the former
President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrossian. He also served as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1993-1994), and as negotiator for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
